"I still think our bid is best by far the best for creditors, for fans, and the long-term viability of the team. NHL commissioner Gary Bettman also was content to let the judge take his time. "The process continues but we are getting closer to a culmination of these proceedings," said Bettman. The two sides also sparred over the issue of whether the Coyotes should remain in Phoenix for the 2009-2010 season. Goldfein said moving the team now would make for a scheduling nightmare. He also said keeping the club in Phoenix would give the players families some stability and allow the team to make some revenue from ticket sales. Kessler agreed relocation at this late date does create problems, but they can be fixed. "We have confidence if the league . . . were to work with us, every one of these obstacles would be overcome," he said. Kessler said Balsillie would be willing to have the team play only part of the coming season in Hamilton if he gets the franchise. Chris Paul - New Orleans Hornets Perhaps the most under-reported story in the NBA this season has been the success of the New Orleans Hornets. At this point, it seems almost silly that there has been so much written about who is the better player, Chris Paul or Deron Williams.  Paul has the Hornets sitting fifth in the ultra-tough Western Conference, and just one game back of the San Antonio Spurs in the Southwest division. Paul, the reigning Western Conference Player of the Month, could become the first player in NBA history to average at least 20 points, 10 assists and three steals in a full season. It remains to be seen if the Hornets can keep up their current pace, but Chris Paul seems determined to grab the title as Best Young Point in the NBA. 3. Dwight Howard - Orlando Magic The 2004 first overall draft pick has made the most difficult transistion as a player: good to great. Steve Nash - Phoenix Suns Nash is no stranger to the MVP debate - having already won back-to-back awards in 2005 and 2006. The native of Victoria, B.C. is leading the NBA in assists this season with 12.3 apg, nearly a full assist-per-game more than a year ago. But, as always, the true measure of success can be found in the win column. At 23-9, the Phoenix Suns sit atop the Western Conference and Nash is the straw that stirs the drink. Despite their success, its been a tumultuous start to the year for the Suns. Over the summer, Shawn Marion expressed his displeasure with rumours that he would be included in a possible Kevin Garnett trade and with the teams refusal to give him a contract extension. The Suns have also had to integrate new acquisition Grant Hill into the rotation. But Phoenix keeps winning and Nash is the reason the Suns are rolling and poised to make some noise. 1. Kevin Garnett - Boston Celtics Nobody, not even the Celtics themselves, would have expected that the Big Three would have this much early success. Most figured it would take at least half the season for the team to get accustomed to one another. Instead, the Celtics hit the ground running and sit atop the NBA standings with an eye-popping 27-3 record. Garnett is the key figure for the Celts. The Big Ticket anchors a stifling defense that allows just 87.0 points-per-game - best in the league. At the same time, Garnett is playing the kind of low-post offense that provides Ray Allen with open shots and Paul Pierce with holes in the defense.
